Yesterday afternoon, at 3:30 p.m. Italian time, the Secretary-General of the Confederation of Humanitarian Nations (CNU) held an operational meeting with several Heads of Mission currently active or in the process of being established in non-European territories.

The meeting was attended by:

  • Sara Romano, Head of Mission of CNU for the Republic of Costa Rica;

  • Assane Niang, Head of Mission of CNU for the Republic of Senegal;

  • Lorena Di Clemente, in the process of being appointed as Head of Mission of CNU for the Republic of Colombia.

The meeting was also supported by Laetitia Bouah, a volunteer of the humanitarian entity directly administered by the Secretary-General, originally from Côte d’Ivoire, who provided linguistic mediation and French-language translation in support of the Head of Mission for Senegal.

The meeting had a clearly operational and strategic focus. Various organizational aspects were addressed concerning the initiatives that CNU intends to develop in the territories, with particular attention to programs on human rights education and the protection of women, children, and the most vulnerable segments of the population.

Significant attention was given to discussion on how to actively involve villages, local communities, and associations already present in the territories, enhancing existing human resources and building networks of cooperation based on trust, respect for cultural contexts, and the sustainability of actions.

Another central point of the meeting concerned the involvement of local professionals and entrepreneurs, considered key actors in ensuring continuity, territorial rooting, and tangible impact of the humanitarian and social initiatives promoted by the Confederation.

Finally, issues of particular institutional relevance were discussed, including the processes for accrediting CNU as a representative authority in the field of international cooperation for the defense and protection of human rights, with specific reference to relations currently under development with the Governments of Senegal and Costa Rica.

The meeting forms part of the broader process of consolidating the international presence of the Confederation of Humanitarian Nations, oriented toward coordinated, responsible action that respects local realities, in full compliance with the founding principles of CNU and the regulations in force in the host countries.
